Google Gets Floating Data Center Patent
A seaborne floating data center to be housed on a cargo ship three to seven miles offshore

Google has gotten a patent on a seaborne floating data center to be housed on a cargo ship three to seven miles offshore that would be cooled by ocean waters and powered by a Pelamis wave-based electrical generator (little fishies and SpongeBob SquarePants beware).

It is US patent 7,525,207, applied for in February of 2007. It imagines the data center being a number of crane-removable containers and the system requiring seawater-to-freshwater heat exchanges and wind turbines.

It removes those nagging little problems like electric bills, water bills and property taxes. Its biggest problem would be finding tides that were strong and consistent enough like a Luddite throwback.
