Layoffs to Hit Yahoo
The first major labor cuts since CEO Carol Bartz got there in January

Yahoo is going to be laying off a few hundred people perhaps on April 21 when the company posts its Q1 results, according to several press reports.

The All Things Digital blog suggests whole units could go.

They will be the first major labor cuts since CEO Carol Bartz got there in January although she has set off a management reorganization and any number of senior people have jumped ship, more than a few of them turning up at Microsoft.

Yahoo's last cuts were in December when Jerry Yang still nominally had the tiller.

It has about 13,600 people, down 2,500 from last year.

The company's Q1 numbers aren't expected to be pretty with sales projected to be down around 16%.
