Dell Continues Layoffs
Dell lays-off hundreds of people globally
Mar. 20, 2009 05:00 PM
Late last month Dell upped its cost-shaving target from $3 billion to $4 billion by February 2011 and last Wednesday it started laying off hundreds of its people globally. It won't say how many or where. Its factories in North Carolina and Tennessee were hit. In its last fiscal year, ended January 30, it cut about 9,300 jobs, roughly 11% of its workforce. Sanford Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi figures it could cut 2,500-3,000 of its remaining 78,900 people this quarter if all of the cost savings it seeks come from layoffs rather than the savings that are eventually supposed to kick in from its supply chain and manufacturing shifts.
