ATLANTA, April 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) extended the company's Proventia(R) Enterprise Security Platform (ESP) with the addition of two new models to the Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliance line -- the G400 and G2000. These new Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances offer the flexibility of either 400 megabit or 2 gigabit throughput, and enhanced management features along with proactive anti-spyware protection. These new intrusion prevention solutions (IPS) extend the capabilities of Proventia ESP in delivering preemptive protection for diverse network environments against known and emerging vulnerabilities and threats. Operating at line speeds for multi-gigabit network environments, Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances block intrusions, denial of service attacks, malicious code, spyware, back doors and hybrid threats -- all without degrading network performance and without requiring any network reconfiguration. Unique to ISS solutions is virtual patch protection, a preemptive security measure that protects systems against attack during the interim of time between the discovery of a vulnerability and the manual application of a security patch. Specific features of the Proventia G400 and G2000 Intrusion Prevention Appliances include: - Spyware Blocking. Innovative spyware identification technology built into the Proventia protection engine blocks known and unknown spyware applications from installation at the network-level before they are downloaded to the client. This preemptive blocking enables a superior level of security by eliminating reactive "cleaning" of spyware applications from client machines. Proventia intrusion prevention appliances also prevent spyware intelligence reporting from desktops that are already infected by automatically blocking active spyware application communication. - Trust X-Force(R) Prevention Policies. Customers deploying Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances with the "Trust X-Force" option enabled are protected immediately by a pre-configured set of "block" actions that has passed rigorous internal tests and is certified to be free of false positives. New security content that is downloaded via regular product updates can be activated automatically, if desired, when applied to the Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliance. - Improved Policy Management. To support diverse deployment landscapes, Proventia intrusion prevention appliances allow administrators the flexibility to control policy at the device, port, VLAN and IP Address levels. - High Availability (HA). Critical for businesses in carrier-class environments, Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances fully support Active/Active HA environments while maintaining full session state. This helps to ensure that ISP and carrier network performance is not degraded, that service-level agreements are not violated and that network outages do not occur. - Web-based Local Management Interface (LMI). The new web-based LMI simplifies setup, management and monitoring of Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances. - SNMP Management. New SNMP management functionality allows for integration with 3rd-party network management products to provide key operational status indicators to network operations and security operations groups. "When we began evaluating IPS systems, we were concerned that our organization had a reactive security model based principally on our existing antivirus and firewall systems. No matter how diligent any company is with patch management and updates, one unpatched system has the potential to wreak havoc on a network," said Chris Aiden, information security manager at Pearson Education, the world's leading education company with several thousand users worldwide. "We still patch and update our systems, but Proventia intrusion prevention appliances ensure we can better manage the patching process without creating undo risk for the organization." Beyond Point Solutions for Complete Enterprise Protection "Global organizations with diverse and distributed IT infrastructures simply cannot protect their entire enterprise with a patchwork of security technologies that react to threats as they emerge," said Greg Adams, vice president of product management, at Internet Security Systems. "ISS has further strengthened the end-to-end approach to security introduced to the industry with Proventia ESP in this latest release of the Proventia intrusion prevention appliance. The company continues to set the standard for preemptive security through exceptional technology development and unmatched vulnerability and threat research." Enterprise adoption of IPS appliances is being driven by increasingly sophisticated threats that require unified security solutions, not just point products, according to IDC (Document #32004). As threats continue to grow at an accelerated rate and become increasingly malicious, enterprises will also need tools to understand their overall enterprise exposure. These two critical issues highlight the value of ISS' Proventia ESP. Additional details on this platform can be found at: http://www.iss.net/proof/preemptiveprotection/flash.php .
