(November 8, 2002) - Insignia Solutions has just released Insignia Mobile Foundation v2, the latest version of its Java-enabling software for mobile devices. It fully supports the new MIDP2.0 specification to enhance functionality for mobile devices in the areas of application delivery, user interface, multimedia, security, and networking. As one of fifteen Mobile Edition executive committee members of the Java Community Process, Insignia cast its vote on Monday to ratify the new MIDP2.0 standard.
Mobile Foundation v2's new features include the Insignia EasyStep architecture to enable easy porting of MIDP1.0 optimizations and customization to MIDP2.0, along with acceleration techniques that speed execution in a reduced memory footprint. Insignia Mobile Foundation supports a wide range of mobile device platforms, including Nucleus, Qualcomm BREW, Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC, Palm, and Linux. This allows a single J2ME code base to be used across all devices in an operator network or manufacturer product line, for development leverage and license flexibility.
Insignia expects devices using the new version of its software to reach customers in 2003.
