Coming This Fall: Rich Internet Applications with Adobe Flex and Java: Secrets of the Masters
PointBase Server 4.3 and PointBase Embedded 4.3 Now Available with JDBC™ 3.0 Compliancy
PointBase Server 4.3 and PointBase Embedded 4.3 Now Available with JDBC™ 3.0 Compliancy

PointBase, Inc., has announced the availability of PointBase Server 4.3 and PointBase Embedded 4.3. The new versions of the PointBase RDBMSs (relational database management systems) are JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) 3.0 compliant and include robust performance enhancements for improved functionality and ease-of-use.

The PointBase family of products - PointBase Server, PointBase Embedded, PointBase Micro, and PointBase UniSync - is a set of technologies providing SQL database and data synchronization capabilities to Java applications running on any Java-enabled platform. Developers use PointBase products as the foundation for building portable, database-driven, data synchronization-enabled applications. PointBase's Java technology delivers the database of choice when total cost of ownership (TCO) matters.

PointBase Server 4.3 and PointBase Embedded 4.3 provide reliable and scalable databases for e-commerce, application servers, Web servers, and embedded applications. New features of PointBase Server 4.3 and PointBase Embedded 4.3 include:

  • JDBC 3.0 compliancy - retrieve JDBC and RDBMS major/minor versions, cursor hold option
  • Greater transactional performance - 18% improvement over PointBase Embedded 4.2, 30% improvement over PointBase Server 4.2, improved optimizer statistics, improved Log File input/output, min/max optimization, LIKE predicate optimization
  • Enriched functionality - sensitive cursors, complete triggers to support correlation values in the assigned set clause, implicit type conversion to compare date/time/timestamp data with the underlying columns data type
  • Improved database console - manage user roles, privileges, tables routines and triggers; specify document format for SQL command output; bookmark favorite/last ten SQL commands
  • Enhanced documentation - comprehensive tuning document, HTML applet for searching.

"Database technology is essential to building a dynamic enterprise Web presence that can actually deliver value," said Norma Schroder, senior analyst for Gartner Dataquest. "Java data management has made substantial inroads in catching up to non-Java database counterparts. Java-using organizations designing an embedded application that requires good scalability and low maintenance, but who place a high premium on portability and integration of many network and device types can now seriously consider incorporating Java data management."
