SpiritSoft Announces General Availability of Universal Caching Framework for the Java Platform, SpiritCache 1.2 First Sale, t

(Boston, MA) – Just two days after the official release of SpiritCache 1.2, their standards-based caching framework for increasing the performance of distributed systems from wired to wireless, SpiritSoft, the leader in open framework Java messaging, is already in the final stages of negotiating its first major sale.

Tom Kinney, vice president of business development at SpiritSoft, in an exclusive interview with JDJ, revealed that the purchaser is “a major online banking provider with over three million clients.”

“The firm will use our product to cache data locally at the edge of the network,” Kinney explained, “reducing the number of hits on their back-end database.”

SpiritCache is an extensible caching framework that eliminates both server and network bottlenecks while retaining application flexibility. It’s the only caching solution to support complex, multitiered applications across diverse platforms and devices.

“If we can help keep updates fresh, the customer experience will be greatly enhanced,” continued Kinney. He explained that SpiritCache provides a performance boost without any additional build-out in the network infrastructure. “Everything we do is to try to be as standards-compliant as possible and as flexible as possible. This allows us to achieve a level of maximum flexibility and interoperability with our clients’ infrastructure.”

“Our fast rate of innovation ensures that SpiritSoft is highly differentiated,” said Kinney. “We’re the very first company to bring out a product from the JSR-107 (JCache) specifications, and we’ll always be on the leading edge of product releases and fresh innovation based on emerging standards.”

Wheras proprietary caching systems usually support only one type of caching and are costly, SpiritCache is a universal Java caching framework, based on the emerging JCache specification that allows developers to plug into any data source whatsoever, offering them complete flexibility and control in dealing with rapidly changing data caching requirements.

"The rapid pace of today's business and the snowballing volume of information that is exchanged makes it increasingly difficult for enterprise systems to operate efficiently," said Kevin Gibbs, CEO of SpiritSoft. "This leads to frustrating user experiences, alienated customers and lost revenue. SpiritCache reduces the load on data stores, reduces load and latency in the network, and provides a flexible, smart caching mechanism to enhance performance across the entire enterprise messaging environment." SpiritCache consists of a simple Java API for working with cached data and objects, and a framework for pluggable implementations, strategies, and tools. It allows developers to plug into any variety of system by providing a consistent interface in any Java environment including J2EE and J2ME.

SpiritCache’s multitier mechanism allows developers to deploy the caching system according to the needs of their architectures – from servers, to the network, and to client systems, in any combination – and to make decisions regarding what data will be cached. SpiritCache builds on the strengths of the SpiritArchitecture to exploit any messaging middleware for event notification between cooperating caches and to provide a reliable, fault-tolerant application platform.

SpiritCache 1.2 features include last image and delta caching of rapidly changing information that is being sent around the network; multilevel caching services, which provide reliable caching to remote or disconnected devices; page level caching, which acts as a front-end Web cache to existing Web services; and an event notification mechanism, which allows applications to subscribe to and get notified of later changes in the underlying cached data.
