Google has bought Toronto-based BumpTop, a critically acclaimed 3D touch-based desktop environment invented four years or so ago as the master’s thesis of CEO Anand Agarawala (pictured).
Wikipedia says it’s more suitable for tablet PCs and palmtops.
It’s been out a year.
Google will be yanking the Windows and Mac widgetry off the market next week.
The company reportedly raised $1.65 million in Canadian seed money. Wellington Financial thinks it could have gone for $35 million-$40 million; TechCrunch thinks more like $25 million-$35 million. It’s got patents.
